http://tectorch.com (Not so Good)
- They could create a logo to create better brand recognition and use their slogan much better.
- The first problem for me is the site looks like a big jumble of small text. I am already not interested in this site.
- They definitely could have aligned the text elements of the site better to encourage the reader.
- Highlighting their feature items could help. They are listed lower on the page and do not stand out.
- A better navigable menu of items sold could help as well. They are linked by pictures below and listed on the right margin. Perhaps a navigable categorized menu of torches/accessories available on front page to avoid scrolling to find.
http://www.swagelok.com/ (Good)
- Great layout, good use of alignment.
- Hierarchy is put to use by the Navigable picture pane with the main features of the site. (Shop, solve, learn and contact)
- Easy and simple navigation and layout throughout the site.
- Maybe a better logo for brand recognition could help?
http://www.gforceracecars.com/ (Not so Good)
- Bad use of alignment throughout. Does not encourage me to read through the long list of information available.
- So much wasted space on the left and right margins. I think they should use every inch of what the user sees initially to catch your attention. Then navigate from there. I don’t want to scroll down through a poorly laid out website.
- Repetition is used, but could have been done much better by highlighting features.
http://apple.com (Good)
- Great hierarchy. They feature their ipad mini, which is the newest and least known product.
- Easy to use. Simple navigation that takes me to where I want to go. Not a lot of scrolling.
I'm right there with you on the analysis and suggestions for tectorch.com. The text was entirely too small and without any real structure and consistency, I just wanted to leave the page. Of course I'm really not that interested in torches, or whatever it was they were selling, but the site made me even less interested in finding out more.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about the following:
ReplyDeletewww.swagelok.com
Here is your quote that I do agree with about their site at www.swagelok.com and it is:
"Easy and simple navigation and layout throughout the site".
The only thing about their site that is behind the times in the year of 2013 is they have no live-chat function during business hours.
Tectorch is needed a janitor to clean it up because everywhere someone goes, there is small text, but in large amounts. The page links on the left where more than need because they could have just used the companies or the picture on the bottom instead of having lots of page links. The bottom with the picture also need a cleaning because picture are also nice, but too many.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with your second reason about tectorch.
ReplyDelete"The first problem for me is the site looks like a big jumble of small text. I am already not interested in this site. "
Totally creates a bad opinion from the opening glance.
I think everyone can agree that Tectorch is in need of a makeover.
ReplyDeleteBut I also agree on your analysis of apple.com They know what to promote and having a easy navigation is key for everyone to be able to peruse their different products.
